HEIDI COLLINS, CNN ANCHOR: Off the coast of Oregon the search will pick up this morning for two people still missing after a charter fishing boat capsized yesterday. Nine bodies have already been recovered.
The Coast Guard says there is little hope the two missing people have survived in the chilly waters of Tillamook Bay. And 19 people were on the boat when it was by a large wave. Some of the survivors reached shore by swimming. The others were rescued.
The harsh reality is that all of those who were killed were not wearing life vests. Their family and friends are in shock as are the survivors. More on this now from Mark Lezuwsky (ph) of our affiliate KPTV.
(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)
UNIDENTIFIED MALE (voice over): Questions linger to why this tragic accident happened to the fishing boat Taki-Too (ph). Visibly shaken relatives and friends of those on board made their way to the Tillamook County General Hospital to meet with counselors including Tillamook County Emergency Chaplain Rick Krane.
RICK KRANE, TILLAMOOK CO. EMERGENCY CHAPLAIN: I'm seeing people being very thankful that their alive. And being very sad about people that they've known, that they lost.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Krane also spoke with the survivors, many still in shock and disbelief.
KRANE: They got out and made it to shore. Some aren't sure even how they got there.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Meanwhile, out at the accident scene, local fishermen say they feared something like this would happen.
FRED WRIGHT, FISHERMAN: Got the shallow bar out here and when the swell's big, it's a real Russian roulette trying to get in and out.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Fisherman Fred Wright runs two salmon trawlers our of Garibaldi and says the shallow bar has many dangers also to people living on shore.
WRIGHT: That's the reason the county floods when it rains. You know, you tip a cup to dump the water out, you got to open the whole to let the water out. Our hole is plugging up. It's treacherous for the fisherman and it's not doing the county any favors either.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Just before the sun set over the Pacific Ocean, some locals threw flowers in Tillamook Bay in memory of those who lost their lives.
