HEIDI COLLINS, CNN ANCHOR: Welcome back, everybody. Time now for our "Quick Draw McGraw" segment.
RENAY SAN MIGUEL, CNN ANCHOR: That means it's time to say hello to Mike Luckovich, a Pulitzer Prize winning editorial cartoonist for the "Atlanta Journal-Constitution." A busy week for you, everything from monkeypox to the Middle East.
MIKE LUCKOVICH, EDITORIAL CARTOONIST, "ATLANTA JOURNAL- CONSTITUTION": Yes. You know, monkeypox was actually funner.
COLLINS: Funner!
LUCKOVICH: The Middle East was one of those things where it's kind of like doing the same cartoon over and over again. It's like they start out hopeful and then the violence erupts, and it's very difficult.
Of course, that's the main story this week. So I did the cartoon here on the Middle East. But...
COLLINS: We'll get to that in a minute. Let's get to, as you would say, the funner stuff. What about a petting zoo?
LUCKOVICH: Well, you know, monkeypox is one of the things this week. So I drew a family and the wife saying to the husband, he loves a petting zoo, you see.
SAN MIGUEL: Using the gloves there.
LUCKOVICH: Right. Right.
COLLINS: Just a little prairie dog.
SAN MIGUEL: And who knew prairie dogs would be pets? That was one of the revelations of the week.
COLLINS: Yes. A lot of them.
SAN MIGUEL: Prairie dogs as pets.
LUCKOVICH: Well, I got one for Father's Day.
SAN MIGUEL: Sorry about that. Hope you have your gloves going as well. And then, of course, the news out of Chicago with Sammy Sosa. LUCKOVICH: Oh, yes. Well, Sammy Sosa. So what I like to do sometimes is combine issues.
COLLINS: Yes, you do.
LUCKOVICH: So I've got these WMD, the weapons of mass destruction, and Bush is saying, "What cork?" He's got the corked bat.
I think the next speech Bush gives where he has to talk about weapons of mass destruction in a country, he's going to have to end it with cross my heart, hope to die, stick a needle in my eye, just to convince people...
SAN MIGUEL: Now you know why they call political, editorial cartoons.
COLLINS: And you have another one on monkeypox, right?
LUCKOVICH: Yes. You know, I couldn't let this thing go. You know, the Democrats are having trouble with name recognition. So the woman says, "Everyone's talking about monkeypox." The husband says, "Is he a democratic presidential candidate?"
SAN MIGUEL: If he is, he's had a pretty good week of name recognition.
LUCKOVICH: You know, I think maybe Lieberman should change his name to monkeypox.
COLLINS: There's a suggestion for you, Mr. Lieberman, if you're watching. Yikes!
LUCKOVICH: Take it for what it's worth. Now, finally, the cartoon that I sweated over here this morning is on the Mideast. If we can zero in on the cartoon.
COLLINS: This, of course, is the one everyone voted as the top story this week.
LUCKOVICH: Right. Now, I have an Arab and a Jew at a table, and there's a couple of knives and, whatever, this meat cleaver sticking out of the peace dove.
SAN MIGUEL: The dove of peace.
LUCKOVICH: Right. And the Arab is saying, "It's his fault," pointing to the Jew, and the Jew is saying to the Arab, "No, it's his fault." In the background, someone's saying, "Forget land. They can't even share the blame."
SAN MIGUEL: There you go. That exactly sums up the point that we've had over the past week here with the recrimination.
LUCKOVICH: Do I get a gold star?
SAN MIGUEL: You get a gold star.
COLLINS: You get a gold star. All right, Mike. Excellent job.
SAN MIGUEL: Once again, you performed under pressure. We appreciate it.
LUCKOVICH: Thank you.
SAN MIGUEL: Mike Luckovich, from the "Atlanta Journal- Constitution." Thanks for your time.
COLLINS: Thank you, Mike. Always nice to see you.
