6-Year-Old's Lemonade Stand Shut Down Due to Lack of Permit

THOMAS ROBERTS, CNN ANCHOR: On a lighter note, there's also a story that the nation has been gripped by, that's coming to us out of Florida. Interesting story there. Six-year old girl in Florida had her lemonade stand shut down because a neighbor complained she didn't have a permit.
SOPHIA CHOI, CNN ANCHOR: A grouchy neighbor.

ROBERTS: Yes, didn't have a permit for that.

CHOI: Yes. And now, she has one. And as Jorma Duran of affiliate WBBH reports, selling lemonade is oh, so sweet.

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

JORMA DURAN, WBBH NEWS CORRESPONDENT (voice-over): Business is booming for this sweet six year old since the sour was squeezed from the system. Little Avigail's lemonade stand was shut down a week ago, after her neighbor called the cops, citing she didn't have a permit. But since then, the city provided Avi with a temporary business license at no charge.

So now, little Avi needs help from family members to keep with southwest Florida's sudden love for lemonade. A constant barrage of cars and people pack this corner full so much the police returned, but this time only to taste the lemonade that's been talked about almost everywhere you go.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: I think she's a brave little girl. She's done wonderfully with all this controversy. And everybody in town is talking about it.

DURAN: In fact, little Avi and her lemonade stand has reached America. This couple came down all the way from Tampa Bay.

(on camera): And who could beat this? For a small donation, you help put money aside toward little Abby's college education. You get a glass of the best lemonade in town.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Oh, it's good. Yes.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Nice, cool and refreshing and heartwarming.

DURAN: So much, this young entrepreneur's tip jar was packed for her future.

ABBY SHAW, ENTREPRENEUR: Another $10 bucks.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Another $10 bucks?

DURAN: Mom says most of the money will be set aside, but some will go towards an item Avi has been dreaming about for a while.

K.C. SHAW, AVIGAIL'S MOTHER: She wants to buy a skating dress, because she takes skating lessons up at Tiko (ph). So she wants that dress. She wants that pink dress.

DURAN: Which goes hand in hand with what this lemonade stand is all about.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: It's just a part of America. It's just like apple pie and Chevrolet.
