DARYN KAGAN, CNN ANCHOR: Ladies, this news for you, the ladies of "Sex and the City" are known for raising the bar, but they nearly pushed a Greenwich Village bar a little too far. Michelle Trousworth from our New York affiliate WABC has that story.
(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I love "Sex in the City."

MICHELLE TROUSWORTH, WABC CORRESPONDENT: You love "Sex in the City?"

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: HBO's "Sex in the City," we love it.

TROUSWORTH: And seemingly, so does everybody else.

MIRANDA: Men are threatened by powerful jobs. They don't want a lawyer. They want...

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: A liar.

CARRIE: I was a liar. I finally ended my affair with Bigg, but the guilt of lying to Aidan was like the hangover I couldn't sleep off.

TROUSWORTH: Here's the hangover the owners of this bar couldn't sleep off. Sunday's upcoming fictitious "Sex in the City" episode allegedly mentioned their real bar "Down the Hatch" as a place where the bartender sells marijuana.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: We found out about it because we received an advanced copy of the tape that's going to -- of the episode that's going to air on Sunday. And it was -- Down the Hatch was portrayed in a very derogatory manner. And it upset us greatly. And we needed to protect our reputation and try to get HBO to stop -- we tried to stop them from airing the episode.

So that we could not let them portray Down the Hatch as a place where you can come and buy pot. It's the furthest thing from that. And we needed to protect our reputation. So we needed to go into court to get a temporary restraining order. We were able to settle before we had to do that. HBO did the right thing and changed the name of the bar to a fictitious name.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: We just want to protect our reputation. We spent many years building five establishments, very popular pubs, local pubs in Manhattan. And to have it tarnished with the possibility of drugs would just be horrendous for all of us.

TROUSWORTH: But now HBO says "the show obviously meant no disrespect at all to the owners and because the bar was uncomfortable with the reference, we changed it."

To be honest, do you think this could end up a good thing in your favor? Now a lot more folks know that you're on the map?

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I guess it's a possibility, but that certainly was was not our intention.

(END VIDEOTAPE)

KAGAN: And that was Michelle Trousworth from our New York affiliate WABC.
