DARYN KAGAN, CNN ANCHOR: Well, the wait is over. It's time for editorial cartoonist Mike Luckovich to show us his latest quick draw. But first, we have the week's top cartoons.
MIKE LUCKOVICH, EDITORIAL CARTOONIST, "ATLANTA JOURNAL- CONSTITUTION": All right.
JOHN VAUSE, CNN ANCHOR: The topics. We want to keep the audience in suspense a little more.
LUCKOVICH: All right. The first cartoon I did, I sometimes like taking a couple of issues and kind of combining them. So if we could go to that first cartoon. "Seabiscuit's" a big movie right now. I've got the horse race, and someone's yelling, "Seabiscuit leads! Wait! Here comes Lance Armstrong."
KAGAN: He just won his fifth Tour de France title.
LUCKOVICH: Isn't he amazing? Gees.
Of course we've got the 9/11 report. And I'm going to show what you I've drawn for CNN today. But I've drawn one for my paper, "The A J-C" this week. This is that cartoon. If we could look at that now.
KAGAN: Now you're directing. The TV thing, Mike.
LUCKOVICH: Yes. Is it there or not? OK. Then it disappeared. That's all right. We can go to this one. This is on the terror- betting plan. And I've got someone...
KAGAN: That John Poindexter was part of.
LUCKOVICH: Poindexter, and Rumsfeld says he knew nothing about it. Who knows? Anyways, I've got someone saying, "Think about it. After the next attack, did you really want to announce 'We have a winner?'" That wouldn't be good.
KAGAN: And down there you have Rumsfeld and Poindexter.
LUCKOVICH: Yes.
KAGAN: And a little happy face.
LUCKOVICH: I love drawing Rumsfeld. He is such a fun person. He's got such a great chin.
VAUSE: He's got a great character face.
LUCKOVICH: He does. He does. He does.
KAGAN: And now we have the Jenna one.
LUCKOVICH: Do we have the Jenna?
KAGAN: Yes.
LUCKOVICH: Oh, there it is. There it is. All right. I drew Jenna, and then Jenna is giving her report card to her father. And as you can see in the report card, it's all blacked out except for P.E., she got a c minus, and she's telling him, "I blacked out portions for national security reasons."
KAGAN: I think daughter security reasons there.
LUCKOVICH: Yes. Yes. Now, you know what? When I come to CNN, I really try to do a good cartoon, and I sometimes panic because I only have a half an hour.
KAGAN: You?
LUCKOVICH: Yes. So what I did, I started to panic, and so I actually did two cartoons this morning.
VAUSE: In 30 minutes.
KAGAN: Same price tag?
LUCKOVICH: No, it's all the same price.
KAGAN: First remind our viewers, they voted as the pages missing from the 9/11 report to be the top story.
LUCKOVICH: Right.
VAUSE: It was a close call, too. Bob Hope was the other choice.
LUCKOVICH: Yes, that would have been a good one.
Well, this is one of the two that I did. I've got, as you can see, someone, the name has been blacked out here. And the name of the country here has been blacked out. And the caption's been blacked out. Someone's name on this second set of shoes under the robe in Saudi Arabia, or in this unknown country here, has been blacked out. And this is my cartoon after being passed around at the White House.
That's -- you can see "bin," something bin something, there.
KAGAN: So you were doing that, and then in the middle, then you had another epiphany.
LUCKOVICH: Then on CNN I saw something about the Crawford vacation. I thought, oh, I should do something on that. So I've got Bush here, and he's got his power... KAGAN: His power saw?
VAUSE: Chainsaw.
LUCKOVICH: Yes, his chainsaw. Thank you.
VAUSE: I'm the wood guy.
KAGAN: Yes, Mr. Fix-it guy over here.
LUCKOVICH: And he's saying, "I'm going to clear some passages from the 9/11 report."
KAGAN: Good job. How you do it on the spur of the moment is beyond me.
LUCKOVICH: Sheer panic.
KAGAN: Panic works, at least in this case.
VAUSE: Nothing like a deadline to get the blood moving.
KAGAN: Absolutely.
LUCKOVICH: See, I wouldn't do a cartoon unless I had a deadline.
KAGAN: Most of us wouldn't do anything unless we had a deadline.
These will be posted on CNN.com, later today. Mike Luckovich from the "Atlanta Journal-Constitution," thanks for being with us.
LUCKOVICH: Thank you, Daryn.
