KYRA PHILLIPS, CNN ANCHOR: Now, as we told you earlier, a Baghdad area prison was hit by mortars, killing at least six people and wounding a number of others.
For the latest now, we head to Baghdad and our Jane Arraf -- Jane.

JANE ARRAF, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Kyra, this was Baghdad's main prison and it houses not just ordinary prisoners, but people who have been detained by the U.S. for a variety of reasons. Now the Army says three mortar rounds slammed into that prison last night, instantly killing three people and wounding three others who later died in a hospital. Up to 59 others were wounded.

Now we're just hearing that information now from the Army. It's not clear why it's being released now. The attack was last night.

There were also two American soldiers wounded yesterday when they walked out of a restaurant in Baghdad. They were shot, not seriously wounded. And sabotage taking its toll on oil and on water.

Apparently an explosion at the main water pipeline here in Baghdad has left more than a quarter million people without water. That's believed to be an explosive device that was left at the pipeline. That oil pipeline to Turkey, still on fire. Officials say that the main fire is out, but there are residual blazes along the pipeline which carries Iraq's oil exports to Turkey -- Kyra.

PHILLIPS: Jane Arraf, live from Baghdad, thank you.
