JOHN VAUSE, CNN ANCHOR: And welcome back. Time is up for Mike Luckovich. Let's see what he's done.
HEIDI COLLINS, CNN ANCHOR: Joining us now...
MIKE LUCKOVICH, EDITORIAL CARTOONIST, "ATLANTA JOURNAL- CONSTITUTION": You're going to see it later, in just a little while.
COLLINS: Yes. We're going to bring up the drama a little. We know our top news story, as you voted this morning, was unfortunately the terror in Baghdad with the bombing at the U.N. headquarters.
VAUSE: Iraq is on everyone's minds.
LUCKOVICH: Yes. It's tough, too, because I kind of like -- I kind of like issues that you can have some fun with, and there's not a whole lot of fun going on...
COLLINS: No, but that's always your challenge, seems like.
LUCKOVICH: It is. It's all Iraq today. The first cartoon I did earlier this week, if we could show that one. OK. That's the -- you see a crowd yelling "Liberators! Hallelujah! Welcome!" And troops are walking in to Iraq saying they're the U.S. troops we're replacing. Things aren't going well.
VAUSE: That's pretty good. I'm laughing.
LUCKOVICH: Well, thank you, John.
VAUSE: The satire is there.
LUCKOVICH: Yes, yes. The next cartoon I did is also on Iraq. And if we could show that cartoon.
The first panel you see someone in silhouette saying, "Adequate manpower and materiel on the ground will ensure our vision for Iraq prevails." The second panel, if we could show that, you see that it's a group of fundamentalists yelling "Praise Allah!" It's not Bush. I like to do cartoons where you think one thing and then...
VAUSE: Exactly.
COLLINS: Surprise.
LUCKOVICH: ... surprise you on the other hand. COLLINS: And you do have another surprise for us this morning.
LUCKOVICH: Now, yes, this is the one I did today. And as I was sitting in the studio, my little drawing studio back there...
COLLINS: And it is such a nice drawing studio.
LUCKOVICH: It is so high-tech. It is so great. But as I was sitting there, you were doing a story on the California recall. So I thought I would combine issues here. I've got, you see a group of Iraqis, and they've got -- one of them as a big sign that says, "Recall rummy." And others are holding signs that say "Arnold" and "We want Arnold." And a couple of U.S. troops, one saying to the other, "Wow, things are bad."
VAUSE: And of course, you could turn that around, Californians wanting draft Saddam Hussein to run the state to get it out of the woods.
LUCKOVICH: I guess you could. I didn't have enough time this morning, or I would have done that, John.
VAUSE: Pretty good.
COLLINS: Thank you so much this morning. We always appreciate it.
LUCKOVICH: Happy to be here. Thank you.
