SEAN CALLEBS, CNN ANCHOR: All right. It's toon time again this morning. We are looking at editorial cartoons from newspapers across the country. Here, Larry Wright of the "Detroit News" has this slant on the California recall ruling, suggesting that the Ben and J-Lo fallout is just as worthy of the court's attention. And "Atlanta Journal Constitution's" own Mike Luckovich has an eye on Madonna's past as he notes the publication of her first children's book.
HEIDI COLLINS, CNN ANCHOR: All right. And as we said, Pulitzer prize-winning editorial cartoonist Mike Luckovich is here now with us this morning. He's been working very hard on our quick draw.
MIKE LUCKOVICH, EDITORIAL CARTOONIST, "ATLANTA JOURNAL- CONSTITUTION": Up to the last minute.
COLLINS: I saw that.
CALLEBS: Show them your fingers.
LUCKOVICH: I have black on my fingers. Do you know what's weird? A lot of times after I'm done working at the newspaper I get home at night and my wife will point out I have whiteout smeared on the side of my face. I'm just quite a mess.
COLLINS: So we know the top story for 79 percent of our viewers, or people who voted on our little poll, Hurricane Isabel.
LUCKOVICH: Normally, that's sort of a tough issue. It's a natural occurring event. There's really no one to blame. And I like blaming people.
So -- but this is a cartoon that I did on that. I have got an "Action News" anchor. You see a correspondent in the background saying, Hurricane Isabel's demonstrating her destructive power. I can't hang on. And the anchor says blah, blah, blah, what does that have to do with Ben and J-Lo?
COLLINS: You do such a great job combining different issues, if you can call Ben and J-Lo an issue.
LUCKOVICH: That's the question. I am sick of them. I wish it would just end.
CALLEBS: Hopefully. According to the "National Enquirer", it's over.
COLLINS: Mike, thank you very much.
CALLEBS: Always a pleasure. One thing we have to point out. You do your drawings with pen. Most artists do them with pencil. So you never make mistake.
LUCKOVICH: That's why I have the whiteout. I go through so much whiteout. I have to put it on with a roller on my drawings.
COLLINS: Thank you so much for drawing that. We appreciate it.
