SEAN CALLEBS, CNN ANCHOR: In Chicago, baseball fans are simply on a high. The Cubs are the National League champions. They move on to play the Atlanta Braves in the playoffs beginning Tuesday. The Cubs have not been in a World Series since '45. Anybody who follows baseball knows they have not won a title since 1908.
The Cubs story was even better outside the stadium. Matt Waterwall has that.
(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)
MATT WATERWALL, CLTV CORRESPONDENT: Cubs fans have waited five years for postseason action. And Saturday's doubleheader sweep of the pirates is setting them up for that.
RICH RADZNY, CUBS FAN: It's an awesome feeling in Chicago. We deserve it. Waited a long time for this. I'm walking around seeing people, tears in their eyes. I have tears in my eyes. It's a wonderful thing, man.
WATERWALL: Fans young and old are celebrating the win. Many doing everything they can to capture the moment. Even the governor's in on the action.
ROB BLAGOJEVICH, ILLINOIS GOVERNOR: It's a lot better than winning an election, that's for sure.
WATERWALL: But, as fans put it, it's "in Dusty they trusty." All those we spoke to credit manager Dusty Baker with bringing the Cubs to this season's success.
RADZNY: Dusty Baker. We have a winning manager in Chicago. We haven't had a winning manager here in a long time. This man came in with experience and he taught these Cub players how to be winners.
BLAGOJEVICH: We've got the best manager out there. We've got a great young pitching staff. We've got Sammy Sosa. There's some magic in the air here.
WATERWALL: As thousands of fans poured into the streets to take part in the magic, they were met by thousands of fans who drove in just to experience the post-game celebration. Police, well prepared for the crowd, only reported a handful of arrests for minor offenses, saying fans have much more on their mind than causing trouble.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I'm just happy the Cubs won their division. And now they've got to win 11 more games.
