CATHERINE CALLAWAY, CNN ANCHOR: Well, the preparations are just about complete for the 46th Grammy awards. Final touches being put in place for tonight's broadcast, including that, as Frank just mentioned, the new delay system in use for the first time by the way.
Now to talk about tonight's event, we're joined in New York by Hughes' TV's Marie Nela. Thanks for being with us this morning, getting up a little early for a Sunday morning. I guess you're psyched up for the awards tonight?

MARIE NELA, FUSE TV HOST: Oh, I'm so psyched that I got up crack of dawn, man. 5:00.

CALLAWAY: Well, we're glad you're here with us. I don't know about this five minute delay. Are they going to take all the fun stuff out, you think?

NELA: I mean, I don't know. I think that this has just grown proportions that no one could have imagined. I think it's a stunt that obviously, you know, went terribly wrong. But I mean, Janet Jackson, she's an amazing performer. And I mean, I think the fun stuff will remain. I'm pretty sure. They'll funk it up for us.

CALLAWAY: You know, and the rumor was that she wasn't going to attend because of the Super Bowl, but it was really about Luther Vandross, wasn't it? And now that he's supposed to attend, she may as well?

NELA: Yes, I really hope she does attend. And Luther, he's just so beloved. He's really a Grammy favorite. And I really hope that Janet's there to give him the award.

CALLAWAY: Yes, she's supposed to present an award to him. Let's get to the good stuff now. And the awards are going to happen tonight. Record of the year is always the big one. What do you think? Tell us about the nominees.

NELA: I have to go with Outkast. I mean, this album was an instant success. They were able to attract the young and the old. These guys are really showing their versatility and their ability to really reach both the rock and the hip-hop and the pop audience. Got to go with Outkast.

CALLAWAY: What about "Best New Artist?"

NELA: I'm going to go with 50 Cent. I mean, this guy, the biggest sales of the 2003 was 50 Cent. I mean, he dominated sales charts. He dominated the street. He dominated the clubs. There's no doubt, this one's going to 50.

CALLAWAY: And song of the year? Luther?

NELA: Got to go with Luther. I mean, I adore Luther. And to be honest, "Dance with my Father," tear jerker.

CALLAWAY: Yes, it is a tear jerker. It'd be great if he could perform. Of course, we know (INAUDIBLE), but just to attend would be an honor to get his big award of the night.

Who all are we going to see perform tonight?

NELA: Excuse me?

CALLAWAY: Who are we going to see perform tonight, you think?

NELA: Well, I hope we see Justin perform.

CALLAWAY: Yes, do you really?

NELA: Yes, I really hope we see Justin perform.

CALLAWAY: Maybe he'll behave, right?

NELA: I'm sure he will behave. I'm sure he'll be a good boy. He's a very talented musician. And we should just focus on the music now.

CALLAWAY: What do you think about the new movement in music? You know, what is going to be the new sound, do you think?

NELA: You know, it's really funny, because on Fuse, we kind of held our own Grammys. And the Fuse audience actually voted Lincoln Park, AFI, and Brand New as -- you know, they were the most popular online.

CALLAWAY: Right.

NELA: And I think that even though hip-hop and R&B have been dominating the top 40, I really think that rock and Emo and Punk Pop, all these new sounds are really starting to make a presence in the top 40 and in mainstream.

CALLAWAY: You know, we were talking about Emo a little earlier. Explain exactly what that is for people who may not know watching this morning?

NELA: Rock or?

CALLAWAY: Emo.

NELA: Emo?

CALLAWAY: Yes? NELA: Emo is like, sort of like a slow more tempo rock. It's kind of like people try to, you know, define it as goth, but it's not really goth. It's sort of -- you know, they say -- they call it screamo, because they scream. It's like, "Ah." But it's very popular among the youth of America, let me tell you.

CALLAWAY: All right, Marie Nela, thanks for being with us this morning. I know you're going to be up...

NELA: Well, thank you so much.

CALLAWAY: ...watching the Grammys. And your show airs on Fuse every night at 6:00. Is that right?

NELA: 6:00 on Imex. And it re-airs at 11:00 p.m.

CALLAWAY: All right, thanks for being with us.

NELA: Thank you for having me.
