LIZ WHITE, CNN CORRESPONDENT (voice-over): Jackie Stewart (ph) used to get hot flashes and night sweats. But after she concocted a homemade granola cereal using soybeans and a grain called flaxseed, her menopausal symptoms went away.
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: I went from many, many hot flashes every day and night sweats virtually every night to an occasional hot flash and virtually no night sweats anymore.
WHITE: In addition to controlling the symptoms of menopause, flaxseed and soy may also reduce the risk of heart disease. But since most women don't typically eat these foods, Tory Stewart decided to take her mother's recipe and turn it into a breakfast cereal for women. Nutrition For Women has prompted other companies to introduce their own designer cereals. This one has a virtual laundry list of extra nutrients, with everything from calcium to Vitamin E.
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: When you're buying a cereal, the best thing to look for is a whole grain low-sugar cereal.
WHITE (on camera): But some of the added nutrients may be pretty minimal. With these two cereals, for example, a serving provides just two grams of soy protein. For comparison's sake, a glass of soy milk has seven grams.
(voice-over): While Jackie Stewart reaped a benefit from her suped-up breakfast cereal, experts say it's just a start toward better health.
For Feeling Fit, I'm Liz White (ph).
