DR. SEDJUE MATTHEWS (voice-over): If you are health conscious and traveling this summer, your diet can continue even while flying. Most airlines offer passengers a variety of special meals at no extra cost that cater to your medical, health and religious preferences.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Primarily they are lower fat, lower caloric meals. They are also lower on the cholesterol side, for the most part.
MATTHEWS: While every airline has their unique plans, Delta offers 18 special meals in three categories. However, while these options are available to you, it does take a little planning on your part.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: They should always request first and foremost whether it is a meal flight. We would then recommend that they then order their special meal at that time.
MATTHEWS: What if you forget to order the special meal?
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: They can certainly change their mind or reorder it or, in fact, make an order up to 24 hours within flight time.
MATTHEWS: How about passengers traveling on flights without a meal service?
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: We encourage passengers to bring their own food and beverages, if necessary, on board the aircraft for short flights or flights, perhaps, where they may feel they need special dietary needs.
MATTHEWS: Your deduction to fitness or to your medical needs do not have to end while you fly. With a little bit of planning, you can combine a wonderful trip while taking care of your health, body and mind.
For "Feeling Fit," I am Dr. Sedjue Matthews (ph).
