U.S. Says it Has Proof Shoe Bomber Did Not Act Alone

MILES O'BRIEN, CNN ANCHOR: Now let's go to the war on terrorism. A congressional delegation has returned from its visit to Camp X-Ray and is reporting what it saw. Plus, authorities now say they can prove accused shoe bomber Richard Reid did not act alone.

CNN's Skip Loescher has details from Washington.

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

SKIP LOESCHER, CNN CORRESPONDENT (voice-over): A Pentagon official says Taliban and al Qaeda prisoners may not have to wear blackout goggles when they are flown to Cuba. And green arrows are being painted on cell floors so detainees will know the direction of Mecca at prayer times.

Two dozen members of Congress toured the facility Friday to see how prisoners are being treated.

SEN. MAX CLELAND (D), GEORGIA: These are people who will be glad to die themselves and take you with them.

LOESCHER: The members of Congress are also briefed on what kind of intelligence the prisoners are providing.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE (singing): It's so hard to say goodbye...

LOESCHER: Some 600 people celebrate the life of Marine Sergeant Jeanette Winter. She was killed when a U.S. refueling plane slammed into a mountain in Pakistan. She as buried Friday in Gary, Indiana, her home town.

While Taliban American John Walker Lindh's parents have spoken about their devotion to their son, the man who roomed with him while they were in Yemen claims Walker Lindh may not have reciprocated the affection.

MICHAEL KLEINMAN, WALKER LINDH'S FORMER ROOMMATE: We lived together for five weeks, and I never once remember him talking about California, his parents, his family.

LOESCHER: Here in Washington, government sources say they now have forensic evidence that alleged shoe bomber Richard Reid did not act alone. (on camera): The sources say the FBI has discovered palm prints and hair samples that did not belong to Reid inside the shoes and the bomb itself.
