ROZ PLATER, KPIX CORRESPONDENT (voice-over): Barry Bonds' 600th home run ball may have sailed into the history books, but it was its trip into the stands that began a dust up that drew blood.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: It was just (UNINTELLIGIBLE). It was ugly.
(CROSSTALK)
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: You got a bloody nose?
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I don't know. The guy was all bloody on the face, so I hope he's OK.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: The guy got the ball and then somebody just immediately punched him three times in the face and said, "Give me the ball, give me the ball, give me the ball." And I just, I can't believe that nobody's looking for that guy, take that guy to jail.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: He caught the ball and then people was just trying to like punch him and trying to kick him, you know, because he had the ball. I mean that's the 600th home run, you know what I mean? I mean it's worth money and it's history.
PLATER: The sell-out crowd, though, missed most of that, focusing instead on what it had come to see. The die hard fans had waited for this moment for a long time and they would not be denied.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: It's history. I've been waiting for history.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: It's gone.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: You'd better believe it, a home town hero for sure. He did it, baby!
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: And I picked a great day to come, Barry hitting 600. what a fantastic day. UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: I was here for 500, 550 and when he broke McGwire's record. So this is just awesome. It just keeps getting better.
