CATHERINE CALLAWAY, CNN ANCHOR: Madalyne Gorman Toogood is expected to surrender today. She, of course, was the focus of a week long search that began after she was apparently videotaped while allegedly beating her 4-year-old daughter in a parking lot.
Let's go right to CNN national correspondent Gary Tuchman, who's joining us from Indiana with the very latest on this.

So when is she expected to make her appearance there?

GARY TUCHMAN, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Well, Catherine, if all goes as promised, the woman who brutalized her 4-year-old daughter in the back seat of her van eight days ago while being caught on videotape will turn herself in here, to St. Joseph County, Indiana some time today, but we don't know the exact time.

The attorney for the woman says she will surrender either here, at the Mishawaka Police Department, or at the county jail about 10 miles away from her. They said some time this morning, but we can't hold them to that. They're just telling us it will be definitely by the end of the day today.

The videotape shocked and horrified people who watched it. We showed it a lot. We know it's hard to watch, but authorities here credit it for this woman, Madalyne Gorman, to come forward and say that she wanted to turn herself in. And, indeed, her attorney said that all the attention, that she did not know it was on videotape and when she found out it was a couple of days ago, she realized the right thing to do was to turn herself in.

And prosecutors are pleased that her attorney has convinced his client to surrender.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

CHRIS TOTH, PROSECUTOR: It appears he's trying to do the right thing here, which is get the child back here so we can make sure that the little girl is safe and also to get his client back here.

STEVEN ROSEN, MOTHER'S ATTORNEY: It was a bad choice and it was captured on a candid camera. And hopefully she'll have the guts and the wherewithal and the intestinal fortitude to look you in the eye and tell you exactly what happened that day and how this happened.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

TUCHMAN: That attorney, Steven Rosen, says the child is OK, is unharmed. However, this is very important to point out, he hadn't seen her personally when he made those comments last night. So as you might imagine, authorities here are very concerned about the child, are very much looking forward to seeing her in person. They will get her medical attention immediately and then, at that point, it's not clear what will happen to the child. It's very likely that they'll have to go before a judge to decide what happens with the child at that point -- back to you, Catherine.

CALLAWAY: All right, a disturbing case.

Thank you.

That's CNN national correspondent Gary Tuchman.

Thanks, Gary.
