FREDRICKA WHITFIELD, CNN ANCHOR: Let's head to the slopes, but let's do that by leaving our skis at home. I know it sounds strange, but our mountain life report, has a suggestion for you, so that you can leave your skis at home and try something new.

KRISTA CRABTREE, ASSOC. EDITOR, "SKI" MAGAZINE: Why schlep your skis across country when you can demo the latest and greatest in ski gear when you get to the resort?

Whether you're a beginner or an expert skier you'll find a variety of skis to choose from. The demo center technician will actually help you find the right size for you, fit you with polls and skis. Then they'll fit your boots to the bindings on the spot.

Even if you are new to the sport, the demo technicians aren't going to intimidate you. They're going to ask you your ability. They're going to look at your height, your weight, and they're going to put you on the right equipment.

You can demo a pair in the morning and try a different brand after lunch. And if you're interested in buying some skis, demoing let's you find the right pair for you.

Some of the Mountain Centers even take off the demo price toward the skis if you want to buy it.

Aside from saving you the hassle of checking your skis at the airport and lugging them up to the mountain, you get them right there at the base of the mountain. And you get to try different skis, find the right brand and ski length for you.
