MILES O'BRIEN, CNN ANCHOR: Whitney Casey joins us from Nacogdoches, Texas, where a lot of the search for debris has been occurring this past week. Whitney, bring us up to date.
WHITNEY CASEY, CNN CORRESPONDENT: The people of Nacogdoches say, they know they will be remembered in this tragedy, but they want to be remembered for finding that debris, and not keeping that debris. This after reports came into local authorities that people were actually finding the debris and then keeping it. Authorities here say that they gave these people amnesty. They gave them up to 5:00 on Friday to turn these pieces in without prosecution. But now that amnesty period is over. 117 pieces were turned in here in Nacogdoches and now, you will be prosecuted. And it's 10 years, $250,000 to $300,000 fine.

So the people of Nacogdoches, as they wake up this morning, a week later, have the search continuing in their backyard. Let me just show you, this is just one small area. This is what you see around Nacogdoches. Pieces like this. This is where a piece of debris fell and was picked up. 60 percent of that has been picked up. And, now, the officials here in Nacogdoches say they will continue their search today. 600 people heading out, weather permitting -- Miles.

O'BRIEN: CNN's Whitney Casey in Nacogdoches. Thank you very much.
