ANDERSON COOPER, CNN ANCHOR: "Matrix Unloaded," there it is. So everyone, grab your PC. We're going to catch a movie. Now, if you've just got to see a blockbuster like "The Matrix Unloaded," you might want to buy a ticket before you go.
Anderson Jones is E-Online's movie columnist. He's got a great first name, and he's live in our Los Angeles bureau.
Anderson, thanks for joining us.
ANDERSON JONES, MOVIE COLUMNIST, E-ONLINE: Anderson, how often do you get to say hello to another Anderson?
COOPER: I know, I -- when I saw it this morning, I was completely startled, because it never happens. I am very thrilled. We should have a little club, we should have a, like, support group, maybe.
JONES: A society of Andersons, I agree, I agree.
COOPER: You probably no doubt -- I know we were going to talk about movies, but you no doubt have heard all your life, You've got two last names.
JONES: Oh, my God, how often? You're on the phone, Yes, that's my first name.
COOPER: Yes, exactly, all right.
Let's talk about movies, buying tickets online, I have been doing it for years now.
JONES: Is that true, Anderson?
COOPER: Yes, it actually is. I mean, I guess a lot of people, though, get confused by it. What do you recommend? What's the best? I mean, do -- A, you recommend doing it online because you avoid the lines, right?
JONES: Well, absolutely, I mean, and certainly you avoid the freaks and geeks who are standing in line for "The Matrix" this week, for example.
The only time I really recommend buying tickets online, I think, is for blockbusters like this, because obviously you want to avoid the lines, you want to get there first. A lot of theaters will allow you to buy tickets in advance, you know, maybe a week, maybe even 10 days before the movie comes out. So that's a great way to kind of get a head start on crowds.
I don't think I'd recommend it for, like, in general, you know, if you want to see "Down With Love" this weekend, I don't think you need to buy your tickets online. I mean, it does lock you into a time and place, so you do need to take care, you know, you do need to take that...
COOPER: Well, I'll tell you...
JONES: ... into -- into consideration.
COOPER: ... I buy it for any movie, just because, one, I don't like to actually talk to people in the theater, so I don't want to have to interact with a human being, which is an issue for me.
JONES: Exactly.
COOPER: And also, I get so much agida about whether or not I am going to miss the movie, whether the seats are going to be taken...
JONES: Right.
COOPER: ... so I do it for everything.
But what do you -- what sites for you do...
JONES: Well, that makes you a bit of a control freak, though, Anderson.
COOPER: Well, those are certainly issues I have been working on with a therapist for years now. But you're absolutely right in identifying that problem.
What sites do you recommend the most?
JONES: The sites I really recommend, there aren't a whole lot. Movie tickets online -- movietickets.com is a very good site, but it's affiliated with AMC, so you get mostly AMC theaters. (UNINTELLIGIBLE)...
COOPER: OK, that is the problem, because some of these sites are affiliated with specific theaters, so they're (UNINTELLIGIBLE)...
JONES: Absolutely. And then there's moviephone.com, which a lot of people are familiar with, you know, online, and also through AOL, but again, there's a limited number of theaters. Fandango.com probably has the largest selection, not probably, it does have the largest selection of theaters. But the real problem, Anderson, is that there is not one site you can go to that represents every theater.
So you kind of have to, like, you know, figure out, is the theater that I want to go to online, and can I buy tickets for it? Will I be able to pick them up at the theater? COOPER: And that's a good question, because a lot of the -- some theaters aren't online, and particularly smaller theaters, independently owned theaters, you know, where they're showing the art films, as they say.
JONES: Right, and sometimes that's your favorite theater. There's a great theater here in Los Angeles, for example, where every other row has been removed. It's a great theater, but it's not online. You know, there's very spacious, it's a great theater, it's a great spot to catch a movie, but they don't have a online service.
COOPER: Are there any warnings or limitations you want to let people know about for using these sites?
JONES: Well, only -- you know, the only thing is, like, you know you are going to pay an additional fee, you know, if you go to the theater and buy your tickets at the box office. Obviously, you know, if it costs $20, it's $20. If you do it online, you know, there's an extra dollar to 75 cents service charge.
And as I said, you know, you may not be, be, buy your tickets in advance, and you may not be able to get the theater you want.
COOPER: Anderson Jones, fun talking to you. Appreciate it.
JONES: It's my pleasure, Anderson.
COOPER: All right. Talk...
JONES: Have a good morning.
COOPER: ... talk to you later, Anderson. Bye-bye -- Robin.
MEADE: What do they say, there's nothing sweeter to the human ear than your own name, Anderson?
COOPER: And looking at myself in the mirror. But, you know, maybe that's just me.
