ANNOUNCER: You're watching CNN STUDENT NEWS seen in schools around the world, because learning never stops and neither does the news.

MICHAEL MCMANUS, HOST (voice-over): CNN STUDENT NEWS, science filled for your Thursday, January 24.

The return of accused Taliban-American John Walker leads the show. We'll give you a little case history. Next, in our "News Focus," we zoom in on the ways in which technology is used to track terrorists. More science lessons in the "Perspectives" section, get a vulcanology lesson in our "Science Report." Plus, Student Bureau introduces us to two patriotic young men making two different choices.

(on camera): Welcome to CNN STUDENT NEWS. I'm Michael McManus.

We start right off, John Walker, the American accused of fighting with the Taliban, returns to the U.S. The 20-year-old Walker, who was imprisoned in November in Afghanistan with other Taliban fighters, is slated to appear in federal court in Alexandria, Virginia. He is charged with four criminal counts.

And CNN's Susan Candiotti has more on those charges and what Walker's defense attorneys are expected to argue.
