CARL AZUZ, CNN 10 ANCHOR: Hi I`m Carl Azuz for CNN 10 and you know what? Fridays are awesome. That may not be breaking news exactly but some of
that is expected this weekend in the United Kingdom. The country`s parliament, its law making body, is set to debate a new deal concerning the
Brexit, the British exit from the European Union. The EU is an economic and political partnership of 29 countries. Its existed since 1993 and no
country has ever left the EU since it was established. But Britain`s voted to separate from it in the summer of 2016 and they`re government and that
of the European Union have been trying to agree on a way to do that ever since.
It`s an incredibly complicated process international trade, immigration, laws, all of these things have to be figured out. If they`re not, Britain
could separate from the EU in what`s called a No Deal Brexit but without an agreement in place, that could create some temporary instability for both
Britain and the European Union. The government of Teresa May, Britain`s previous prime minister, was able to reach a deal with the European Union
on the terms of the Brexit but Britain`s parliament, which needs to approve the Brexit deal first, didn`t.
It rejected that agreement and that eventually led to Prime Minister May`s resignation. Now, Prime Minister Boris Johnson has struck a new deal with
the European Union but will parliament vote to approve that. We`ll see this weekend. If Britain`s parliament rejects this new agreement, it could
lead to a No Deal Brexit or the deadline could be extended once again for Britain and the European Union to reach another deal. That`s happened
several times this year.

AZUZ: Another kind of agreement`s been made between the United States and Turkey. U.S. Vice-President Mike Pence has been in the Turkish capital
meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Yesterday Vice- President Pence said a ceasefire has been called in northern Syria along the Turkish border. That`s where Turkey`s been going after Kurdish forces
that it considers terrorists, but the Kurds in Syria have been U.S. allies and the fight against the Islamic State Terrorist group. Under the
agreement Turkey says it will pause its military action in northern Syria and enforce a safe zone there and the Kurdish forces would leave the area,
then the United States will remove its recent penalties on Turkey`s economy. Turkey says its military operation has paid off.
10 Second Trivia. What is the correct pronunciation of this word? Is it a. Shaden-freu, b. Saden-frude, c. Schaden-freud-uh, or d. SHAD-enfreud-uh.
German term for laughing at someone else`s is schadenfreude.
So today alone I`ve said schadenfreude. I`ve pronounced Recep Tayyip Erdogan and I`ve had a bit of practice pronouncing non-English words on the
news. But as paparas versus paparas showed you last week, I don`t always get it right. Today`s Great Big Story is about a man who has to.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Pardon me professor, maybe you can help me out here. Is this word pronounced cash or cache?
JACQUES BAIILY: Cash.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Appreciate it Doc. You see when Jacque Bailly pronounces a word, he pronounces it right. He can pronounce this thing,
smaragdine.
BAIILY: Smaragdine.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: He can pronounce this thing scharenschnitte (ph).
BAIILY: Scharenschnitte (ph).
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: He even pronounces words that don`t make a lick of sense.
BAIILY: Albumen (ph).
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: And when you`re that good with words, sooner or later someone`s going to pay you to say them.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Hi Dr. Baiiily.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: This is Jacques Baiily, the official pronouncer of the National Spelling Bee.
BAIILY: Luxembourg.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: L-u-x-e-
BAIILY: Gala. You sure about that? Sherbert (ph). Gyro (ph). GIF.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Before Jacques days as the world`s foremost pronouncer of persnickety words, he began his spelling career on the other side of the
microphone. Jacques was a competitive speller and in 1980, he found himself in the finals of the Scripts National Spelling Bee. His word
elucubrate. So he said - -
BAIILY: e-l-u-c-u-b-r-a-t-e, and it means to burn the midnight oil, to study all night.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: And with those 10 letters, Jacques became a champion. Twenty-three years later, Jacques had elucubrated all the way to the big
show.
BAIILY: Trophiophina (ph). Rochfert (ph). Pyroclastic (ph).
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Can I please have the definition?
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: But sometimes even Jacques meticulous pronunciations don`t tell the whole story.
BAIILY: English words are not always spelled as they sound. One thing that makes English words really hard to spell is the "shwa" (ph). The
"shwa" (ph) is that "uh" like in butter or unutterable.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: The y in syringe. The a in balloon. The o in freedom. They all sound the same when spoken out loud, a speller`s nightmare.
BAIILY: The longer and weirder a word is the easier it is to spell. Take the state fish of Hawaii, the humumumunukunukuapua. That`s an easy word to
spell. It`s just long. It`s a weird word and weird words stand out and are easier to remember.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: o -n-o-m-a-s-I-a, onomasia.
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Correct.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: For a man with perhaps the most legitimate claim as the authority on pronunciation, Jacques takes a rather agnostic approach to the
right and wrong ways to say things.
BAIILY: A lot of people are kind of amazed that I know how to pronounce all these words but I don`t. I read them from the dictionary. Well how
does the dictionary know how to pronounce a word? Because they go out there and listen to native speakers. If there are a whole bunch of people
who pronounce a word a certain way, that makes it a correct pronunciation. People have very strong opinions that there are an incorrect way to
pronounce a word, but its like saying that dog barked wrong. That`s not a bark. Well the dog gets to decide.

AZUZ: Anyone with $200 could buy a Barbie Dream House but for $120 plus taxes and fees you could rent this one where the dream has come true. It`s
life sized. The infinity pool, the fashionable clothing, the Malibu address, the cornucopia of pink, it`s all real and its available for only
one lucky renter and his or her`s guest who will get it for two nights at just $60 per night. It commemorates Barbie`s 60th birthday. Could you be
the one to "Skipper" over there to celebrate, "Stacy" in style, enjoy the "Francie" decor, "Jazzy" it up and have a truly "model" stay in something
so "adollable"? Yes. Yes you "Ken". And we hope you`ll "Barbie" here next week when CNN 10 returns. I`m Carl Azuz.
