FREDRICKA WHITFIELD, CNN ANCHOR: A somber Sunday for many in New York today, where more tears were shed at Ground Zero. Days after a formal ceremony marked the end of the recovery effort at the site of the World Trade Center, those what lost loved ones in the terrorist attacks gathered one more time there. CNN's Brian Palmer has the story.
(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)
BRIAN PALMER, CNN CORRESPONDENT (voice-over): Relatives of those killed on September 11 were once again drawn to the valley of grief in lower Manhattan.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
PALMER: On Thursday, an official city-run ceremony signified the end of the search for remains of ground zero and the beginning of rebuilding. On Sunday, the families of those who died in the Trade Center attack held their own small memorial.
Some of their rituals have grown familiar over the past months. Relatives and friends still hold up photos, snapshots and portraits of their loved ones for the cameras, for themselves, for everyone and no one in particular.
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: We light this candle to thank the rescue workers, construction works and all the volunteers at ground zero.
PALMER: They mourn and honor those killed with music, prayer and poetry.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Normal as we knew it, we will never know again.
PALMER: Some were still not ready to say goodbye.
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Stephen!
PALMER (on camera): This is last in a series of the last events that includes Thursday's public memorial that marked the end of the recovery operation, and this morning's final ground zero prayer service.
Families linger, not quite wanting it all to end.
Brian Palmer, CNN, New York.
