Britain's Prince Harry Turns 18 Today

CAROL LIN, CNN ANCHOR: Today marks a milestone for Britain's Prince Harry. The young royal turned 18 today. Harry is vowing to carry on with the charity work of his late mother, Princess Diana.
ITB's Owen Thomas reports he's already selected his first cause, and in his first official royal photograph since coming of age, the prince is showing he's not camera shy.

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

OWEN THOMAS, ITB CORRESPONDENT (voice-over): The pictures released were taken during this shot by Testino (ph). The charity was chosen personally by the prince. He wanted to help a smaller organization. The pictures show the royal teenager looking relaxed and happy in an unbuttoned shirt. In the other, he's perched on a fence and dressed in his High Grove (ph) team polo shirt.

FEOFF PRESCOTT, MERLIN CHIEF EXECUTIVE: This is a lot for Prince Harry actually. He carefully, must have carefully looked at which charities to support and he chose a humanitarian aid charity, one which works in some of the most difficult places in the world.

THOMAS: The Merlin charity provides emergency healthcare in around 30 countries. The sale could net at around ?650,000. In an interview to be released on his birthday, the prince is expected to say how much he wants to continue supporting the sort of causes championed by his mother and that he wants to keep the memory of the Princess of Wales alive.
