CAROL LIN, CNN ANCHOR: With James Bond and Harry Potter slugging it out, the holiday season is in full swing at your multiplex. CNN's entertainment correspondent, Ana Maria Montero, joins us from Los Angeles for a closer look at what's competing for your entertainment dollars.
Hi, there, Ana Maria.

ANA MARIA MONTERO, CNN ENTERTAINMENT CORRESPONDENT: Hey, how are you?

LIN: I'm doing great. I haven't seen either of these movies, but I'm just wondering, what's your theory about James Bond trouncing Harry Potter right now?

MONTERO: I think it's the opening weekend. You know what I mean? I mean, it's the first weekend that it's out. Everybody that wants to see James Bond is probably going to see it this weekend. Sort of inching away Harry Potter; didn't really beat it by that much -- it was only $5 million. But I do think that that's really what had to do with it. It will be interesting to see what happens next weekend. After it's already been out, I don't think it's going to do as well.

LIN: Really? Because the reviews haven't been really great.

MONTERO: Yeah, they've been like OK. It's kind of what you expect from a Bond movie, basically.

LIN: I'm hearing more about Halle Berry's bikini than I am really of the plot.

MONTERO: Exactly. And all I have to say is I'm sure that there's a lot of people who went this weekend just to see Halle Berry in her orange bikini.

LIN: All right. Well, nearly half a dozen movies are coming out this Thanksgiving week. So what else do we look forward to?

MONTERO: So much. There's so much going on. But this Thanksgiving weekend, there are two that sort of stick out. We've got Adam Sandler's "Eight Crazy Nights." This is a really funny movie, Carol, because it's an animated movie, it's a little bit over an hour. And Adam Sandler plays this 33-year-old party animal who finally just gets in trouble. And they tell him, listen, all right, enough is enough, it's either you do community service over the holidays or we send you to jail. He, of course, opts to do community service with his little buddy here, who also works at the youth center where he's going to be working.

And that's his sister Eleanor. But what's great about this movie, Carol, is he does all three voices.

LIN: Oh, you're kidding!

MONTERO: No.

(CROSSTALK)

MONTERO: Yes. He does Eleanor, Whitey and Davey. He's so talented. He's amazing. Anyway, he does "The Hanukkah Song" at the end. We have a revamped version of "The Hanukkah Song."

LIN: Oh, great. He's singing again.

What else?

MONTERO: We've also got "Solaris." Now, this also falls -- this goes to the other end of the spectrum. This is a science fiction movie. It's directed by Steven Soderbergh, produced by James Cameron, starring George Clooney. And basically, I always think you have to take a leap of faith on these films, you know, these sort of science fiction movies, where he plays a psychologist, who goes to investigate a space station whose crew has been affected by contact with this ocean planet called Solaris. And then apparently, parallel to that, he sort of tries to relive a past experience where he wants to right a past wrong.

LIN: Oh, that sounds complicated, though.

MONTERO: Yeah, it sounds a little heavier than "Eight Crazy Nights."

LIN: Yeah. Yeah.

Anything else before we move on to Christmas?

MONTERO: Well, there's -- there are many, many, many movies out this weekend. But I definitely think those two are the more fun.

LIN: All right, well, Christmas is usually a big season, because this is when films seem to debut for Oscar contention. So sometimes you get a lot of the heavy hitters coming out towards the Christmas holidays.

MONTERO: And people have more time to see movies. You know, you're on break, you have holidays. So definitely in terms of heavy hitters, this holiday season, Carol, we have "Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers." You know, you can't get much heavier than that.

LIN: Do you know, is it going to pick up where the last one literally left off? I mean, it just stopped. I mean, the movie just stopped. MONTERO: I know, it does just stop. And you're like, it's over? I mean, it's long enough to where it should be over, but yeah, you have that feeling of -- but this movie does pick up exactly -- you're going to pick up with Frodo and Sean as they're standing on that -- Frodo and Sean -- Sean Austin -- those two characters as they're standing on the mountain. And they're looking out to Mordor, and they're thinking that's where we've got to go. That's exactly where it's going to pick up.

LIN: Oh, good. All right. Well, thanks so much, Ana Maria. Look forward to all of that.

MONTERO: Thanks to you.

LIN: All right, thanks for coming in on your Sunday.
