CAROL LIN, CNN ANCHOR: The husband of a missing pregnant woman is making a very public effort to try to find his wife. Scott Peterson has been in the headlines lately for possibly being looked at in a 1996 missing woman case and for possibly having an affair in the recent days of his wife's pregnancy. Neither have proven to be true, yet. Paul Vercammen is covering the story in Modesto.
We know the story's going to come back to you, but we understand that Scott Peterson is actually down in Los Angeles. What's he doing there?
PAUL VERCAMMEN, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Exactly, Carol. This story has shifted down Interstate 99 here, if you will, and then down Interstate 5 and into Los Angeles. Scott Peterson and his family and volunteers associated with the family felt it was very necessary to get the word out on the streets of Los Angeles as they search for Laci Peterson. They also today staunchly defended Scott Peterson, saying that he's been victimized by terrible innuendo and lies, and Scott Peterson broke his silence today. Some wondered aloud while he's in Los Angeles and not in Modesto.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
SCOTT PETERSON, LACI'S HUSBAND: Well, if you go to Modesto, you see every store, every corner, there's posters of her everywhere. We've been working on that for 26 days. We simply have to expand the geographical area, so we'll do it here, we'll do it in San Diego next weekend, and we'll continue to expand until we find her.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
VERCAMMEN: Also, Scott's brother, Joe, said that this has been extremely hard on Scott, that he has way more bad days than he does good days, that he's haggard and that he's losing weight.
Meanwhile, back here on the investigative front in Modesto, very quiet (AUDIO GAP) surrounding areas, both bodies of water and land, but turned up nothing.
Oddly enough -- maybe not oddly enough, but we should note that Modesto is very much part of what would be called the greater nation, it's a prime colony. And while so much talk in Modesto this weekend has focused on Laci Peterson, perhaps they'll have a brief respite today when the Raiders play a football game this afternoon against the Tennessee Titans to see who goes to the Super Bowl. That is the latest from Modesto -- Carol. LIN: Yes, the Raiders certainly are a culture up there in Northern California. All right. Thanks so much. That community certainly does need a breather. We hope the best to find Laci Peterson. Thanks so much, Paul Vercammen, reporting live in Modesto.
