ANDERSON COOPER, CNN ANCHOR: We begin tonight's show on the West Coast, where Hollywood celebrities are about to honor their own. They seem to do this just about every week now...
(CROSSTALK)

COOPER: They can't get enough awards.

FREDRICKA WHITFIELD, CNN ANCHOR: Well, this time it's the Screen Actor's Guild Awards tonight. And Andy Culpepper pepper is right there on the red carpet with the goodies and all.

COOPER: Andy.

ANDY CULPEPPER, CNN CORRESPONDENT: I cannot tell you how much fun it is. I can't tell you how much fun it is to be standing under the sun...

WHITFIELD: Tell us, how much fun is it?

CULPEPPER: ... in a -- well, it's hot. And this tuxedo is going to walk its way out of here at the end of the day.

Just to give you a sense of what's going on here, the local color, as it were, down this way are the assembled media. Well, actually, they'd assemble the other way too but they'd be backlit. There are, I'm told, 180 crews from around the world here. And about, of all these people, I think there are 700 bodies. So you can imagine, if there are 700 bodies, and they are all wearing black and it's very hot out here, I don't know how hot, but you can imagine that in about an hour, it's going to be a challenge to local hygiene. Hi.

So at any rate, and hearing you and hearing everything out here is a challenge too. But the celebrities haven't started arriving yet. They'll be here soon, I hope. I'm looking forward to it, because as soon as they get here, the sooner we get to go and find some shade.

Security is very tight this year. Here is an interesting fact. Let's turn the camera around, if we can here, and in the stands behind us -- hello, stands -- stands behind us are full of invited guests, who no longer get to camp out and come in here and just plop down and have a place to sit. Ever since security got tight about two years ago, it's the same way at the Oscars as it is here. Even those of us covering this, here is my closeup. This is how I got in. And it allows me to stand here and tell you that it's hot outside.

And we'll be here for the next couple of hours. So bye-bye from the red carpet, back to you in Atlanta.

WHITFIELD: Andy, I get it. It's really hot out there. So when do these celebrities kind of turn up? It's going to get even hotter, right?

CULPEPPER: Somebody promised me that in about a half an hour, somebody will be here. (UNINTELLIGIBLE) walked by, looking truly absolutely fab, so.

WHITFIELD: All right.

CULPEPPER: Back to you and we'll be back here later.

WHITFIELD: All right, thanks a lot, Andy.

CULPEPPER: I can promise you.

WHITFIELD: OK, well, try to stay cool. Maybe find some shade or something in that black suit. But you look good.

COOPER: All right. We're about done with that?

WHITFIELD: I think we are. You said you were done with the awards, but we've got at least one more big one.
