Man Crashes Prince William's Birthday Celebration

FREDRICKA WHITFIELD, CNN ANCHOR: We've all had them, a neighbor or friend, for that matter, who turns up at an exclusive party even though they weren't invited. But this party crasher raises considerable more eyebrows when the bash is at Windsor Castle. Helen Wright of Independent Television News tells us about a royal surprise.
(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

HELEN WRIGHT, ITN CORRESPONDENT (voice-over): It's a bizarre scene, which should perhaps have raised security concerns. The strangely dressed man filmed playing to the crowd outside Windsor Castle just as guests were arriving to the royal party. He's said to match the description of the intruder who later gate-crashed Prince William's 21st.

It (UNINTELLIGIBLE) guests at the African-themed fancy dress (UNINTELLIGIBLE) watched as the intruder stumbled onto the stage as Prince William was making a speech. He's even said to have grabbed the microphone.

Police and security guards then stepped in, and the man was arrested and driven away to a (UNINTELLIGIBLE) police station.

William, here earlier rehearsing with the band that entertained his guests, is said to have reclaimed the microphone and made a joke that the intruder was his brother in disguise, to try to lighten the mood.

Today at Windsor Castle, police checks were very much in evidence. The home secretary has demanded to know how they were so easily breached last night. That the safety of three generations of royals at sake.

Scotland Yard said today: "We consider any breach of security to be a serious matter. And a thorough review into all the circumstances surrounding the incident is under way."

As the queen sped away from Windsor Castle today, a second more in-depth security inquiry was already being discussed.
