FREDRICKA WHITFIELD, CNN ANCHOR: Baylor University basketball player Patrick Dennehy is still missing more than two weeks after he was last seen, and now Texas authorities fear foul play.
CNN's Ed Lavandera is following the investigation. He joins us by the phone from Waco. And Ed, I know you're just now getting there, but what are you able to learn?

ED LAVANDERA, CNN DALLAS BUREAU CHIEF: Well, Fredricka, we know that authorities here in the Waco area have been questioning members of the Baylor basketball team. Officials won't officially -- or authorities won't officially say how many of the players or which players have been questioned, but initially this is now kind of moving into the realm of a homicide investigation, I'm told by one of the authorities here in Waco.

It had originally started off as a missing persons report. Patrick Dennehy has been missing for about two weeks, since June 11. We've talked to several residents who lived in the apartment complex where Patrick Dennehy lived, and they all seem to say the same thing, that it's been about two weeks since the last time most people saw them. We talked to one person, who also said that Patrick Dennehy was a low-key guy, just very quiet, very unassuming and one person said he had said, Oh, I'll be right back, and that was the last time they had ever seen or heard from him after that -- Fredricka.

WHITFIELD: Well, Ed, his vehicle was located in Virginia. What more are officials saying about, you know, why and in what condition the vehicle was found in Virginia?

LAVANDERA: They're not saying much more about that, although everyone that we've talked to here say that there doesn't seem to be any kind of connection to Virginia between Patrick Dennehy and Virginia. So I think a lot of the people we've talked to say, you know, that's kind of a strange thing or one of the things that's piqued their curiosity.

Patrick Dennehy is from California, also played basketball in New Mexico, and transferred to Baylor a year ago. So the Virginia connection has seemed to stump a lot of people or caught a lot of people off guard here.

WHITFIELD: All right. Ed Lavandera, thanks for joining us on the telephone from Waco, Texas, with the latest on that investigation. And as we say, Patrick Dennehy's girlfriend is holding a press conference in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where Dennehy used to also go to school, and when that press conference is over and when we have that tape we'll be bringing that to you as soon as we get it.
