CAROL LIN, CNN ANCHOR: A new script called "the Blame game" is on the prompter in Tinsel Town. The cast: California's governor, Gray Davis, and the front runner in the recall race, Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Election day is bearing down, and Schwarzenegger is calling the groping allegations against him campaign trickery. Gray Davis is demanding the details.

Our candy Crowley is covering Davis in San Jose, California.

Hi there, Candy. Details, what is it that Davis is wanting to find out?

CANDY CROWLEY, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Yes. I'm sorry, because the noise is going to be a little loud in here, but what one of the things that this has done, obviously, is give new energy to the Davis campaign. The numbers, prior to these allegations coming out for Schwarzenegger, looked very bad for Davis, so they have a new bounce now.

It is, in fact, something Gray Davis brings up at every stop in one way or another. But a lot of this also, in these final few days, is about rallying the troops.

We're in a union hall in San Jose. These are the ground troops. These are the people who go door to door and say come vote, you know, vote no. So he is spending a lot of time with these sorts of foot soldiers.

One of the things that he brings to them is a long and lengthy list of things that he says he has accomplished for California.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

GRAY DAVIS, GOVERNOR OF CALIFORNIA: Why would they want to recall a guy like me?

(END VIDEO CLIP)

CROWLEY: So the other thing, of course, that he does is he does allude to and sometimes downright bring up the Arnold Schwarzenegger charges against him saying that there is a very clear choice that people have to make next Tuesday.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

DAVIS: Should we recall a sitting governor who has committed no crime?

(END VIDEO CLIP)

CROWLEY: So we have sort of a two-barrel approach, and that is, one, Carol, get out the faithful, get them out to vote because, in the end, it's all about turnout.

And two, it's to really clearly define this campaign, which is, as Governor Gray Davis sees it, either keep me in office or go to Arnold Schwarzenegger. He thinks that that is enough to bring home some of those Democrats who had been reluctant in leaning towards voting for the recall -- Carol.

LIN: Candy, have you seen Gray Davis essentially change on the campaign trail, especially in light of these allegations about Arnold Schwarzenegger?

CROWLEY: You know, no, he hardly ever changes. I mean, but there -- certainly the pitch is different. I mean this is a man who is pretty even keel through the whole thing, doesn't show a lot of emotion, but clearly, it has energized the staff. You can feel that on the plain. And you can feel that with Gray Davis to a certain extent.

And what it mostly has changed is it has given them some more fodder to what they always thought this would be. They framed this election a couple of weeks ago. This will be me or Arnold. And these charges against Schwarzenegger, in fact, played right into that sort of approach to it because now the choice, according to the Gray Davis camp, certainly looks more and more stark.

LIN: All right, thank you very much -- Candy Crowley reporting live from the Davis campaign there.
