SHIHAB RATTANSI, CNN ANCHOR: It's been more than five years since the end of apartheid in South Africa, but racist attitudes in the country remain. Despite its multi-racial democracy, many say race relations continue to deteriorate.

Some organizations use a so-called "membership only" policy to disguise their rules of segregation. The South African Broadcasting Corporation visits their resorts near Johannesburg, where it was confronted with the realities of racism, as we see in this report.

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

MZWANDILE MBEJE, SABC CORRESPONDENT (through translator): For people and tourist that prefer to spend some time out of the busy city, (UNINTELLIGIBLE) resort is one place to be for some. It is located 40 kilometers west of Johannesburg, but the only thing is, not everyone is welcome.

This Canadian tourist had come to (UNINTELLIGIBLE) traveling with a black friend. This man made it clear that blacks were not welcome, but when confronted, he tried to steer clear of the issue.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: The problem is we are from the SABC, and so, we are going to be doing a piece on racial discrimination.

Unfortunately, when I call and I ask for a reservation and I'm asked if my party is whites only, that is racial discrimination. Is it not you who owns this place?

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Yes, it is me that owns it.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: But you work under the Caravan Club.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I work with the Caravan Club.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Who is it who sets the whites only?

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Talk to my lawyer.

MBEJE: He insisted that he respected the constitution, but he was just responding to the needs of the visitors.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I agree with you. But I will lose all my clients. That's my problem. MBEJE: The South African Human Rights Commission promised to investigate the park and make its findings public once it's finished.
